The Oregon Agriculture Teachers Association (OATA) serves as a statewide Professional Learning Team/Professional Learning Community (PLT/PLC) for agricultural educators across Oregon. Through collaboration, shared expertise, professional development, and industry connections, OATA provides agriculture teachers with an ongoing network for improving instruction and strengthening agricultural education programs.
The OATA Fall Conference is a one-day professional learning opportunity that brings this statewide PLT/PLC together for focused training and collaboration. Conference sessions are led by fellow educators, industry professionals, agency partners, and other content-area experts and provide participants with practical strategies, current information, and resources that can be immediately applied within agricultural education programs.
Professional learning offered during Fall Conference addresses a broad range of needs within agricultural education and Career and Technical Education (CTE), including:
- Equity, diversity, inclusion, and access within agricultural education and CTE programs, with an emphasis on reducing barriers to participation and supporting students from historically marginalized and underserved populations.
- Inclusive instructional practices that help educators meet the needs of diverse learners, including students with disabilities, multilingual learners, advanced learners, and students with differing educational and career goals.
- Emerging technology and technological advancements within agriculture, natural resources, mechanics, manufacturing, food systems, and related industries, including strategies for incorporating current technology into classroom and laboratory instruction.
- Industry-aligned technical skills and knowledge that help educators maintain relevant programs and prepare students for postsecondary education, training, and high-demand careers.
- Effective and innovative instructional practices, including hands-on learning, work-based learning, experiential education, classroom and laboratory management, and student engagement.
- Career-connected learning and workforce development, strengthening connections among agricultural education programs, industry, postsecondary institutions, and community partners.
- Leadership development and professional collaboration through peer-to-peer learning, sharing of effective practices, and statewide collaboration among agricultural educators.
Because agricultural education encompasses classroom and laboratory instruction, work-based learning, Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE), FFA, and community and industry partnerships, Fall Conference provides professional learning across the complete agricultural education model while helping educators strengthen relevant, inclusive, and industry-connected programs for Oregon students.
